We invite the media to publish it and broadcast it widely at any time - let's inspire more volunteers to sign up to inspire young people. Click here to hear Ian reciting it himself. JUST HALF AN HOUR Think what can be done in just half an hour; Not much, you might say: it’s the blink of an eye. Do the pots, get dressed, have a hot shower, Start to do the ironing. Or change a life. That’s all we’re asking: just half an hour, To talk about yourself and your career: To plant ideas and watch them grow and flower; And leave a thought or two or three in a receptive ear. Look: Just half an hour and imagination’s fired; A life can be changed and a light can be lit. Give the time = Young people get inspired It’s a simple equation and a perfect fit. Growing Ambitions: visit them now: Growingambitions.org will show you how! © Ian McMillanGive a young person a dream, and careers guidance can then be well-targetted and all the more effective. Within today's Information, Advice and Guidance (IAC) environment, providing vibrant, genuine and informative Word-Related Learning experiences are crucial in helping young people to make good GCSE, A level, Diploma, degree and other training choices like apprenticeships. In the Staying On report (9 June 2009) by the Equality and Human Rights Commission 94% of young people said they need better career information. Fair access to the Professions Young people Survey found that 70 per cent of under 14-year-olds have never received careers advice. Through capacity-building career talks from workplace role models, young people can make informed career plans that are more likely to endure. Young people from Key Stage 3, and Key Stage 4 upwards benefit from this service. Growing Ambitions is an agent for positive social change, enhanced social inclusion and mobility. |
